Deregistering a Business
You should therefore deregister your business as soon as you completely cease your business activities. For partnerships, please note that all partners will be required to deregister.
A business must be deregistered if:
- you move your operations to another town or city
- you give up your business activities
- you leave a partnership (e.g. a civil law partnership (GbR) or general partnership (OHG)).
You must deregister your business at the administrative or trade licensing office of the town or city in which your business is currently registered.
Alternatively, you can deregister your trade fully electronically here.
To deregister your business, you must complete the business deregistration form and present your personal ID. In the ideal case, your business licence (the confirmation of business registration) should also be submitted. Many towns/cities also provide their business deregistration form online for you to download.
The trade licensing office will then inform your tax office, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and, if necessary, the Chamber of Crafts and Skilled Trades and the competent trade association about the deregistration of your Business.
In most towns and municipalities, businesses may be deregistered free of charge.
